Repetition, Planting & Dance

Traditional methods of Cherokee ceremonial planting include song and near-choreographed  movements according to who makes the hole, who places the seed and who pats down the dirt. It is a rhythmic process which combines prayer, song and movement to create an efficient work-dance. Through the choreography I will explore the rhythm that must exist between different workers. I will also be looking at the trance-like effect of the repeated actions, as well as repetitive level changes to a set “work rhythm”. What I want to do is embrace and imitate the combined cadence of work and ceremony.
